Kate’s passion stems from being raised on an organic farm (she was actually raised in her family’s historic farm house otherwise known as the BUG property). Her background is in public health and sustainable agriculture where she’s been involved in many different components of the food system. Currently she’s the healthy retail specialist for the County of San Diego focusing on projects to improve healthy food access to under resourced communities by working with small neighborhood markets.
In addition, Kate has helped lead efforts in urban agriculture advocacy and research with the goal of improving urban farm viability. Kate has also done research on farmworker health and presented findings at major public Health conferences.
